12 Greatest Promises Of God In The Bible

Last Updated: 08 January 2020

The Bible is filled with God’s promises. He gave them to us so we may have peace in our hearts, a purpose to live and hope for the future.

This article outlines the 12 most important Promises of God in the Bible.

May they inspire you to keep trusting God and stand firm in your faith.

God’s Promise 1
Answer Our Prayers

Many Christians could attest to the fact that having your prayers answered is not something that happens overnight. It’s a process of praying according to God’s will and persevere until we get results. As a consequence, many people become discouraged – they stop praying and give up.

No, friends! Don’t let us become disheartened or lose faith, because IT IS WRITTEN that God our Father who sits on the most-high throne will listen to our cries and answer according to what He thinks is best for us. That’s the key thing that many of us forget: God will do what He finds best, and not what we think should happen. After all, He is God right? Are we as mortal creatures wiser than our immortal Creator?

I want to encourage you to never stop praying, hoping and waiting. God will answer in His due time and according to His will.

Without further ado, here are 5 well-known scriptures affirming that God do indeed answer prayers:

Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. | Matthew 7:7

Cast your burden on the Lord and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved. | Psalm 55:22

This is the boldness which we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. And if we know that he listens to us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him. | 1 John 5:14-15

If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, you will ask whatever you desire, and it will be done for you. | John 15:7

Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective. | James 5:16

God’s Promise 2
Healing

Since the fall of humans, all kinds of illnesses and diseases have been affecting our survival and welfare. It is our belief that God gave us medical science to help resolve many of these issues. Nonetheless, many people are still suffering under the yoke of sickness. Or, to be more precisely, we all have suffered from some sort of condition – and if not yet, one day we will. That’s the nature of our existence.

But, don’t let us lose hope, because God said in His Word that He is more than able to heal our diseases and restore our bodies.

There are numerous examples of healing miracles in the Bible. Yet, many Christians today doubt about the wondrous, miraculous power of God. If God could have done it for them in the past, what makes us think that He can’t do it for us today? He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

Here are 5 Bible verses reminding us of the healing promises of God:

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness. You were healed by his wounds. | 1 Peter 2:24

Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them; and I will reveal to them abundance of peace and truth. | Jeremiah 33:6

But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed. | Isaiah 53:5

Praise the Lord, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits, who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies. | Psalm 103:2-4

If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer. | Exodus 15:26

God’s Promise 3
Strength & Power

What is strength?

According to multiple dictionaries, strength has many shades of meaning:
1) The quality or state of being physically and mentally strong;
2) The virtue of the power to resist attacks, pressures and forces;
3) The ability to take a course of action.

And, do you know what’s beautiful about this?

God promised to give us every level of strength that we need in order to overcome. Read on for yourself:

He promised to make us mentally strong:
Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. | Isaiah 41:10

He is able to give us the ability to take actions:
Those who wait for the Lord will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint. | Isaiah 40:31

He gave us power to resist attacks and forces:
For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. | 2 Timothy 1:7

He promised to make us physically and mentally strong in this verse:

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. | Isaiah 40:29

According to David, God will strengthen us even in our old days:
My mind and my body may grow weak, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. | Psalm 73:26

God’s Promise 4
Hope For The Future

Do you remember how our Bible defines Faith?

According to Hebrews 11:1, faith is the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen.

What are we hoping for, actually? What are the things we are convinced they exist, but haven’t seen yet with our own eyes? Why are we following Jesus? Why do we believe in the Bible? Isn’t it in part because we want to meet our Creator and live eternally without pain and suffering?

But, besides all that, we also hope that our journey here on earth would be blessed and fruitful. Obviously, we can’t guess what would happen to us in the future. Would we graduate? Would we find the job of our dreams? Would our business succeed? Would our marriage last? No, we don’t know the answers to these questions?

Nonetheless, one thing we know for sure: God is our hope for the future and our destiny is in His hands. We know that HE WILL MAKE A WAY WHERE THERE SEEMS TO BE NO WAY.

We know He’ll make a way, because of what His Word says:

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. | Jeremiah 29:11

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. | Romans 15:4

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. | 1 Peter 1:3

Hope doesn’t disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. | Romans 5:5

I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble; but cheer up! I have overcome the world. | John 16:33

If you love me, keep my commandments. I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever: The Spirit of truth, whom the world can’t receive; for it doesn’t see him and doesn’t know him. God’s Promise 6
Forgiveness

One of the core beliefs of Christianity is that humans have sinned and fallen from the Grace of God. He, then, sent Jesus to die on a cross, so we may have a relationship with Him again.

Although Jesus died for us and restored the bridge to God, it is in our hands whether we would like to receive that gift or not. God is willing to forgive us, but His forgiveness is not unconditional.

Let’s take a look at what the Bible has to say about God’s promises regarding forgiveness:

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. | 1 John 1:9

But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. | Matthew 6:15

Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven. | Luke 6:37

He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor repaid us for our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his loving kindness toward those who fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Like a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him. | Psalm 103:10-13

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace. | Ephesians 1:7

God’s Promise 7
Protection

Our lives are incredibly fragile. It’s disheartening to realize that everything could change in the blink of an eye. We could get sick; injured in an accident; put in jail based on a false accusation; or killed by a bullet.

But, cheer up, friends! God promised in His Word to protect us from these things. And even if He doesn’t, we know that everything will work for good for those who love the Lord and live according to His Word.

The followings are Scriptures in which God describes Himself as the Protector of our mind, body and soul:

God’s Promise 8
Peace Of Mind

Despite all advances in technology and human intelligence, there are more conflicts than ever before in today’s world. We hear of wars and rumors of wars. We notice a surge of protests of dissatisfaction in many countries. Analysts warn about robots taking our jobs. We also experience that mother nature isn’t so happy anymore. You turn on the TV or open the Internet, and the news is filled with negative stories and events. It’s scary out there, isn’t it?

Needless to say that we are still living in an erratic world. And, if we think that one day it would get better, here’s a word of advice: Buckle Up, because according to the Bible, it will get much worse before it gets better.

So, what do we do now with all our angst about these things happening around us? Here’s the good news: God promised in the Scripture that He will give us peace that is beyond explanation. So, let’s be strong and courageous, friends, because in the midst of all these chaos, the peace of God is available.

Here are 5 Bible Verses in which God made a promise to give us peace:

God’s Promise 9
Wisdom & Guidance

Most Christians would agree when I say: It’s difficult to live according to the Word of God. Doing what the flesh wants to do is easy. But, going against the flow of our sinful nature is a hard pill to swallow. Give in to peer pressure is easy. But, standing up for what we believe in will give us countless enemies. And last, but certainly not least: Trying to maintain our faith in a world that is increasingly becoming ungodly, is incredibly challenging – this is especially true for young people.

Therefore, we need God’s wisdom and guidance in our lives. We need Him to show us the way, so that we may walk on His path. Fortunately, His wisdom and guidance are available if we seek His face. Yes, our all-knowing and powerful God promised to guide all His followers.

Here are what the Scripture says:

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. | James 1:5

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. | Ephesians 5:15-17

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction. | Proverbs 1:7

For the Lord gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. | Proverbs 2:6

I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you. | Psalm 32:8

God’s Promise 10
Supply Our Needs

Did you know that Abraham called God: Jehovah Jireh? It means ‘The Lord Will Provide’. (For those who want more context, please read Genesis 22).

From generation to generation, God made evident that He will provide for His children. Check out these examples:
– He took care of the people of Israel in the wilderness; manna from Heaven;
– An angel of God provided food and drink for Elijah when he was fleeing (1 Kings 19:6);
– God made a leafy plant grow to shade Jonah from the Sun and so make him more comfortable (Jonah 4:6);
– All the provision miracles of Jesus: turning water into wine, feeding 5000 men, the miraculous catch of fish, among others.

God knows that we need food and shelter to survive – He created us that way, after all. And He doesn’t only know that, but He also promised to supply in the needs of His servants.

So, when life gets tough and we don’t have the means to support ourselves and our family, remember that God is able to give us much more than anything we can ask or think of.

Read below these Bible verses about God’s promises related to our needs:

My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. | Philippians 4:19

Do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? | Matthew 6:25

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. | Psalm 37:4

Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. | Malachi 3:10

Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. | Proverbs 3:9-10

God’s Promise 11
Salvation & Eternal Life

Many would agree that the most beautiful and comforting promises of them all is the Promise of Salvation and Eternal Life. I don’t think that anybody has ever said something as amazing about Salvation as the apostle Paul when He said in Romans 8:18: “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the GLORY that is to be revealed to us.”

This world can’t offer us much. But, we have a hope and it’s called Jesus. He made a way for every single one of us. He opened the door to the Father, and the choice is ours to choose that narrow door.

Take heart, friends! If we persevere, soon and very soon, we are going to meet our King.

Read for yourself the Bible quotes about God’s Promises of salvation and eternal life:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. | John 3:16

If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. | Romans 10:9

Most certainly I tell you, he who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and doesn’t come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. | John 5:24

Many false prophets will arise and will lead many astray. Because iniquity will be multiplied, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end will be saved. | Matthew 24:11-13

God’s Promise 12
Ending Suffering

It goes without saying that we all are dealing with something, aren’t we? It doesn’t matter how rich you are, or how physically beautiful you are, or how good person you are, or that you’re a princess in a royal family, life is not easy for anyone. All lives in this world are filled with pain, struggles, and challenging circumstances – just in different ways and levels. It’s the hard reality we do not really understand, but that we have to accept, plan for and live with for the rest of our earthly lives.

However, there is good news. Along with Salvation and Eternal Life, Jehovah God promised His children something else: the END of Suffering. Wouldn’t be amazing to live eternally and not having to worry where our next meal is coming from? Wouldn’t be satisfying to not have to suffer under the yoke of sickness and disease? What about a world without war, violence and injustice?

God gave us the guarantee that Jesus will come back for a second time, and then He will restore all created things to their former glory.

So, this is what the Scripture says about the end of all suffering:

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. The first things have passed away. | Revelation 21:4

It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. | Revelation 21:6-7

There will be no curse any more. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no night, and they need no lamp light or sun light; for the Lord God will illuminate them. They will reign forever and ever. | Revelation 22:3-5

We do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. | 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but he is patient with us, not wishing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance. | 2 Peter 3:9
