The Lord’s Prayer

Prayers In The Bible

The Lord’s Prayer is the prayer in the Bible that Jesus used to teach his disciples how they should pray.

It can be found in Matthew 6:9-13. Here it is:

Our Father In Heaven
Hallowed Be Your Name
Your Kingdom Come
Your Will Be Done
On Earth As It Is In Heaven
Give Us Today Our Daily Bread
And Forgive Us Our Debts
As We Also Have Forgiven Our Debtors
And Lead Us Not Into Temptation
But Deliver Us From Evil

You too could use the Lord’s Prayer as guidance to pray. This Prayer can be broken down into 4 parts:

1. Praise
Start your daily prayer with praise and worship to God. It could be reading a Psalm aloud, sing a praise song or as simple as telling God how great and wonderful He is and how grateful you are for having him in your life.

2. Repent
Before you start asking God for anything, confess your sins to God and humbly ask for forgiveness and restoration of heart and mind. Besides, make sure to not bear any grudge against someone in your heart. Jesus said in Matthew 6:14 that in order for God to forgive you, you should forgive others first.

3. Ask
Now, present your request to God. It could be anything for yourself or others. Jesus told us in Matthew 7:7-12 to ask and that it will be given to us.

4. Yield
The last step is to believe and yield to the will of God. Close your prayer with thanksgiving and praising God for his ability to answer prayers and his miracle-working power. Affirm your believe in him and confirm to him that you’ll wait for him and that you’ll yield to his will whatever it is.

Bible Prayers For Protection & Safety

Prayers In The Bible

A Prayer by David in Psalm 3:1-3;6-8
Lord, how greatly are they increased who make attacks on me! In great numbers they come against me. Unnumbered are those who say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. But your strength, O Lord, is round me, you are my glory and the lifter up of my head. I will have no fear, though ten thousand have come round me, putting themselves against me. Come to me, Lord; keep me safe, O my God; for you have given all my haters blows on their face-bones; the teeth of the evil-doers have been broken by you. Salvation comes from the Lord; your blessing is on your people.

The Prayer Poem of David in Psalm 16
Preserve me, God,
for in you do I take refuge.
Lord assigned my portion and my cup.
You made my lot secure.

Protection Request in Psalms 22
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from helping me,
and from the words of my groaning?
Don’t be far off, Oh Lord.
You are my help: hurry to help me.
Deliver my soul from the sword,
my precious life from the power of the dog.
Save me from the lion’s mouth!
Yes, from the horns of the wild oxen.

A Protection Prayer by David in Psalm 35:1-8
Contend, Oh Lord, with those who contend with me.
Fight against those who fight against me.
Take hold of shield and buckler,
and stand up for my help.
Brandish the spear and block those who pursue me.
Tell my soul, “I am your salvation.”
Let those who seek after my soul
be disappointed and brought to dishonor.
Let those who plot my ruin be turned back and confounded.
Let them be as chaff before the wind,
Your angel driving them on.
Let their way be dark and slippery,
Your angel pursuing them.
For without cause they have hidden their net in a pit for me.
Without cause they have dug a pit for my soul.
Let destruction come on him unawares.
Let his net that he has hidden catch himself.
Let him fall into that destruction.

David asking for Protection in Psalm 54
Save me, God, by your name.
Vindicate me in your might.
Hear my prayer, God.
Listen to the words of my mouth.
For strangers have risen up against me.
Violent men have sought after my soul.
They haven’t set God before them.

The Prayer in Psalms 64
Hear my voice, God, in my complaint.
Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked,
from the noisy crowd of the ones doing evil

A David’s Prayer in Psalm 70
Hurry, God, to deliver me. Come quickly to help me, Lord. Let them be disappointed and confounded who seek my soul. Let those who desire my ruin be turned back in disgrace. Let them be turned because of their shame. Who say, “Aha! Aha!” Let all those who seek you rejoice and be glad in you. Let those who love your salvation continually say, “Let God be exalted!” But I am poor and needy. Come to me quickly, God. You are my help and my deliverer. Lord, don’t delay.

Prayer for Protection in Psalm 71
In you, Oh Lord, I take refuge.
Never let me be disappointed.
Deliver me in your righteousness, and rescue me.
Turn your ear to me, and save me.
Be to me a rock of refuge to which I may always go.
Give the command to save me,
for you are my rock and my fortress.
Rescue me, my God, from the hand of the wicked,
from the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.
For you are my hope, Lord Yahweh;
my confidence from my youth.
Don’t reject me in my old age.
Don’t forsake me when my strength fails.
God, don’t be far from me.
My God, hurry to help me.
Let my accusers be disappointed and consumed.
Let them be covered with disgrace
and scorn who want to harm me.

Bible Prayers Of Repentance And Forgiveness

Prayers In The Bible

The greatest repentance prayer in the bible was written by David in Psalm 51. He wrote it after being rebuked by prophet Nathan for committing adultery with Bathsheba and murdering her husband.

Here’s a break-down of this prayer:

A. Asking God for Mercy – Psalm 51:1-2
Have mercy on me, God, according to your loving kindness. According to the multitude of your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions.Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity. Cleanse me from my sin.

B. Confessing Your Sins – Psalm 51:3-6
For I know my transgressions. My sin is constantly before me. Against you, and you only, have I sinned, and done that which is evil in your sight; that you may be proved right when you speak, and justified when you judge. Behold, I was born in iniquity. In sin my mother conceived me. Behold, you desire truth in the inward parts. You teach me wisdom in the inmost place.

C. Asking God For Restoration – Psalm 51:7-12
Purify me with hyssop, and I will be clean. Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness. That the bones which you have broken may rejoice. Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all of my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. Don’t throw me from your presence, and don’t take your holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation. Uphold me with a willing spirit.

D. Praising God for His Mercy – Psalm 51:13-19
Then I will teach transgressors your ways. Sinners shall be converted to you. Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, the God of my salvation. My tongue shall sing aloud of your righteousness. Lord, open my lips. My mouth shall declare your praise. For you don’t delight in sacrifice, or else I would give it. You have no pleasure in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. Do well in your good pleasure to Zion. Build the walls of Jerusalem. Then you will delight in the sacrifices of righteousness, in burnt offerings and in whole burnt offerings. Then they will offer bulls on your altar.

Job’s Repentance Prayer in Job 42:1-6
I know that you can do all things,
and that no purpose of yours can be restrained.
You asked, ‘Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?’
therefore I have uttered that which I did not understand,
things too wonderful for me, which I didn’t know.
You said, ‘Listen, now, and I will speak;
I will question you, and you will answer me.’
I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear,
but now my eye sees you.
Therefore I abhor myself,
and repent in dust and ashes.

Prayers To Conquer Evil and Temptation

Prayers In The Bible

Prayer for Strength in Temptation in Psalm 19:13-14
Keep back your servant also from willful sins.
Let them not have dominion over me.
Then I will be upright.
I will be blameless and innocent
of great transgression.
Let the words of my mouth and
the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
Lord, my rock, and my redeemer.

Another Prayer for Strength in Temptation in Psalm 141:1-5
Lord, I have called on you.
Come to me quickly!
Listen to my voice when I call to you.
Let my prayer be set before you like incense;
the lifting up of my hands like the evening sacrifice.
Set a watch, Yahweh, before my mouth.
Keep the door of my lips.
Don’t incline my heart to any evil thing,
to practice deeds of wickedness with men who work iniquity.
Don’t let me eat of their delicacies.
Let the righteous strike me, it is kindness;
let him reprove me, it is like oil on the head;
don’t let my head refuse it;
Yet my prayer is always against evil deeds.

Prayer for Liars in Psalm 12:1-3
Help, LORD, for no one is faithful anymore;
those who are loyal have vanished from the human race.
Everyone lies to their neighbor;
they flatter with their lips
but harbor deception in their hearts.
May the LORD silence all flattering lips
and every boastful tongue

Prayer for Wicked People in Psalm 10:12-15
Arise, Oh Lord!
God, lift up your hand!
Don’t forget the helpless.
Why does the wicked person condemn God,
and say in his heart,
“God won’t call me into account?”
But you do see trouble and grief.
You consider it to take it into your hand.
You help the victim and the fatherless.
Break the arm of the wicked.
As for the evil man,
seek out his wickedness until you find none.

Prayer for Vindication in Psalm 43:1-3
Vindicate me, God, and plead
my cause against an ungodly nation.
Oh, deliver me from deceitful and wicked men.
For you are the God of my strength.
Why have you rejected me?
Why do I go mourning because
of the oppression of the enemy?
Oh, send out your light and your truth.
Let them lead me.
Let them bring me to your holy hill,
To your tents.

Prayer for when your enemies surround you, see Psalm 71

Bible Prayers For Stress, Anxiety And Depression

Prayers In The Bible

Anxiety Prayer by David in Psalm 61
Hear my cry, God.
Listen to my prayer.
From the end of the earth,
I will call to you,
when my heart is overwhelmed.
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For you have been a refuge for me,
a strong tower from the enemy.
I will dwell in your tent forever.
I will take refuge in the shelter
of your wings.

Prayer for Sadness by David in Psalm 69
Save me, God, for the waters
have come up to my neck!
I sink in deep mire,
where there is no foothold.
I have come into deep waters,
where the floods overflow me.
I am weary with my crying.
My throat is dry.
My eyes fail, looking for my God.
God, in the abundance of your loving kindness,
answer me in the truth of your salvation.
Deliver me out of the mire,
and don’t let me sink.
Don’t let the flood waters overwhelm me,
neither let the deep swallow me up.
Don’t let the pit shut its mouth on me.
Answer me, Lord, for your
loving kindness is good.
According to the multitude of your
tender mercies, turn to me.
Don’t hide your face from your servant,
for I am in distress.
Answer me speedily!
Draw near to my soul,
and redeem it.

Prayers In The Bible For The Nations

Prayers In The Bible

Judgement Prayer in Psalm 9:19-20
Arise, Lord, do not let mortals triumph;
let the nations be judged in your presence.
Strike them with terror, Lord;
let the nations know they are only mortal.

Prayer Before War in 2 Chronicles 14:11
Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. LORD, you are our God; do not let mere mortals prevail against you.

Asking God to Save a Nation in 2 Kings 19:15-19
Lord, the God of Israel, who sit above the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. Incline your ear, Lord, and hear. Open your eyes, Lord, and see. Hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to defy the living God. Truly, Lord, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands, and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone. Therefore they have destroyed them. Now therefore, Lord our God, save us, I beg you, out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, Lord, are God alone.

Prayer for Salvation from War in 2 Chronicles 20:6-12
Lord, the God of our fathers, aren’t you God in heaven? Aren’t you ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in your hand, so that no one is able to withstand you. Didn’t you, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it to the offspring of Abraham your friend forever? They lived in it, and have built you a sanctuary in it for your name, saying, ‘If evil comes on us—the sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine — we will stand before this house, and before you, (for your name is in this house), and cry to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save.’ Now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned aside from them, and didn’t destroy them; behold, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of your possession, which you have given us to inherit. Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that comes against us; neither know we what to do, but our eyes are on you.
