You Too Can Live A Life Of Courage

DEVOTIONAL: Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of anyone.

It should be clarified, immediately, that I am highly sympathetic to pain. Almost to the point of empathy really, and it doesn’t matter all that much, if it’s a person in pain, or a sweet critter like my Miniature Dachshund girl, Ms. Barbie. She is the sweetest, most spunky and full-of-personality little dog I ever met. She is even more vibrant, and full of herself, at about three pounds smaller (averaging 7 pounds) than my first wild man, Rocky, at both their average weights. It’s literally true that a tiny dog has no clue she is tiny. Although she’s a little old woman now - and quite a bit of her normal personality is altered due to vision and hearing loss, general body weakness, some senility and possible seizures or seizure type activity going on her body - she still yet has moments that I know she’s still in there somewhere. When those little bits of her shine through her old body, it makes my day. And when she’s having a rough day, I try to be as courageous as the example she sets for me.

The sweet, funny, tough little bit of girl reminds me not to give up. And even when her time comes to go home, I will think about days she showed me the full circle of courage. No matter how bad she clearly can feel at times, she still has this little snippet of “I am not giving up, and I will get up and dance across the room for a snack,” even if most of the dancing is clearly in her mind somewhere - and not actually happening. What a blessing for God to bring her to me, and show me at times that I need it. Truly living courageously doesn’t mean not being bothered by troublesome situations. It just means believing that there’s hope for another day, and you’re not alone. I’m grateful for the reminder.

Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.Deuteronomy 31:6

Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.Psalm 27:14

Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.Psalm 31:24
